By Bradley Bouzane An Ontario father of five girls was sentenced this week to 30 years in U. prison after being found guilty of travelling to Georgia with the intention of having sex with a preteen girl.
Brian Schumaker, of Mississauga, Ont., was found guilty this spring after he drove to Atlanta to have sex with an 11-year-old girl in 2007, but discovered he was the centre of a police sting.
A student union leader at the University of Ottawa says an online conversation among five fellow students in which she was the target of sexually graphic banter shows that "rape culture" is all too prevalent on Canadian campuses.
Anne-Marie Roy, 24, is going public despite being threatened with legal action by four of the male students, who say the Facebook conversation was private.
“This is a particularly disturbing case of a father of five girls who travelled to Georgia from Canada intending to sexually exploit an 11-year-old girl,” U. attorney Sally Quillian Yates said in a news release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
